Bays summit a success for Sydney

MEDIA RELEASE - The Hon. Pru Goward MP, Minister for Planning, Minister for Women

NSW Planning Minister, Pru Goward, this evening officially closed The Bays Precinct Sydney International Summit, declaring it an unequivocal success.

“There is no doubt that thanks to the input of the experts and the community we are better prepared for the journey ahead of The Bays Precinct Urban Transformation Program,” Ms Goward said.

“While today marks the end of The Bays Precinct Sydney International Summit, it signals the starting point for the development of the draft Strategic Plan for The Bays Precinct Urban Transformation Program.

“We started the Summit with a blank canvas, and we hope to colour it in over the coming months with all the ideas and suggestions which have come out of the Summit.

“This Summit has provided an outstanding forum for Government, policymakers, and the community to think, hear, discuss and learn about successful large-scale urban transformation projects from around the world.

“It will help shape the ambition and overarching principles for the transformation of the last piece of waterfront in Sydney Harbour. It is a complex task, and one which will take some time, but it is important for Sydney’s future.

“Indeed, the Premier and I look forward to receiving from UrbanGrowth NSW in the coming days the key strategic principles that will guide the development of The Bays Precinct strategic plans.”

Ms Goward paid tribute to UrbanGrowth NSW for its planning and co-ordination of the Summit.

“This Summit has been a huge success. It is particularly so when you consider it has been organised in just four months,” Ms Goward said.

“Much credit goes to the Chair and Board of UrbanGrowth NSW, its Chief Executive David Pitchford, Summit Project Leader Alexandra Vella, the Summit team and all UrbanGrowth NSW ambassadors.

“Thank you too, to all the Australian and international speakers, panellists and participants who have so valuably contributed to the discussions.”
